I was the only 'nope' so far. Regarding "why", well I don't usually visit artists' front page profiles after the first time I discover them. I tour their entire gallery, read the last few journals ('cause old news is old news, most of the time), and then I hit the watch button for Journals and Deviations (and occasionally Scraps, if what I saw during the tour warrants it). I also like to keep the Friend box checked, just in case (- 3-)
If the widgets on the front page were to change, it would go unnoticed by me, and I'm sure those like me are not a small percentage of your audience. If you want to keep the request influx relatively small, I'd say it's probably safe to proceed as you are now. However, if you'd prefer to keep all your watchers abreast of updates regarding requests, I'd suggest making a journal on the subject, rather than a front-page widget. And to broadcast your updates, you wouldn't need to make a whole new Journal entry, just make the changes and make sure the "Notify watchers" checkbox is properly oriented before confirming the changes. 'Course, that'll probably mean you get filled up with requests that much faster, so it's a productivity decision, I guess
